100% of Patients Agree: Lab Results Should be Available Online

Healthcare

Patients increasingly act like consumers. Informed by their experiences with Amazon, at Apple stores, or using Uber, they are applying this high bar for service to their healthcare experiences. These expectations run across all facets of a stay from wait times to quality of care to their billing experience. This trend is at the core of this insightful story on patient preferences for laboratory results. A new study found that 98 percent of patients wanted to receive lab results via secure messaging services (SMS). Further, 100 percent of those polled preferred viewing their lab results online through an email or patient portal. By receiving lab results this way, patients said they can skip the wait and hassle of retrieving results in person.

Healthcare professionals and Health IT teams must take note. Telemedicine is the expectation today, not the desire for tomorrow. Patients are growing more and more frustrated with traditional healthcare services, and have shown an increased willingness to shop for providers based on convenience, price and accessibility. People value their time and expect health systems to do the same.

This gets at the core of our mission here at Orb Health. We launched with a vision to transform healthcare in a way that aligned care teams with patients, families and caregivers. This patient-centric approach is key to the next generation of successfully healthcare solutions and services.
